This striking house began with substance
and culminated in an abundance of style. The clients' love of
wood steered them toward a recycled timber frame structure. Their environmentally-conscious
nature also made energy efficiency
a top priority, prompting them to build part of their home from
Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) and to wrap the timber frame
in Structurally Insulated Panels
(SIPs).
After settling on building
materials, the focus turned to aesthetics. Many of the photos
the clients were drawn to included amusing angles, so CHA
incorporated numerous slants, slopes and turns into the home
design. Pop-outs, pop-ups and a daring, "twisted" roofline
give the exterior an unpredictable quality. The syncopated
window placement adds to the jovial appearance while expertly
framing the mountain views and naturally lighting the home all day long. Radiant
heat under stained concrete floors keeps the temperature
comfortable, and the air filtration system ensures high indoor
air quality. Creative touches abound, including an indoor
dry creek bed, in-floor glass block skylights, a leaning wall
and metal stairs cantilevered off a steel I-beam.

evident during the entire design process. Her knowledge of
energy efficient, environmentally friendly alternatives was
invaluable. Cheryl was able to listen to all of our ideas
and think outside the box to create a very unique home that
is proving to be everything we hoped it would be."Read more client testimonials.
